Curriculum

Social/Emotional – Through our safe and stimulating learning environment, students experience the joy of accomplishment as they are introduced to school routines, take responsibility in the classroom, develop self-control and sensitivity to others, learn how to be a good friend, use manners, and gain skills through guided cooperative play. Teachers enhance student self-esteem and empathy for others by modeling encouragement, kindness, and caring. Students learn that each person has gifts and talents, and have been made unique and special by God.

Reading Readiness – Students are instilled with curiosity and a love of reading in our preschool and prekindergarten programs by being immersed in an environment rich with age-appropriate literature. Awareness of alphabet letters and sounds, phonics, and rhymes are introduced and repeated using all of a child’s senses through art, music, and movement. Emphasis is placed on increasing vocabulary through active participation in hearing and telling stories.

Math – Children experience math concepts through sorting and classifying objects by color, shape, and other shared characteristics. Number concepts are introduced through hands on activities as students begin to understand one-to-one correspondence and patterns.

Science – Children's natural curiosity and wonder about the world God created for us is nurtured and developed through experiencing nature first hand inside the preschool and prekindergarten classrooms and in the school yard. Children learn about the cycle of living things including plants, animals, and the human body.

Social Studies – Students learn the concept of community and citizenship through working together to achieve goals in the classroom, such as helping one another, taking turns, and making group decisions. Students learn about jobs and helpers in the wider community, as well as in their classroom community, and their connection to the world outside of their families and school.

Art – Expression and learning through different art forms is an important part of the formative years of preschool and prekindergarten. Students are given many opportunities to develop creativity, fine motor control, and spatial relations through various art materials. Music and movement are also incorporated into numerous activities throughout the day as a fun way to develop gross motor skills, and to stimulate learning and memory skills.

Bible – A knowledge and awareness of God as our Creator permeates each day at Brooklake. Students are introduced to a loving God who gave us His Son as our Savior. They enjoy God's Word through Bible stories and songs, and learn to recognize and emulate the Fruit of the Spirit.

PK5 Plus is an all-day class offering a wider variety of learning opportunities for younger students.  Students will learn basic Spanish, beginning sign language, computer skills, cooking, basic music skills, and develop their motor skills in addition to the standard curriculum.
